i am 84 years and can't count the number of doctors I have seen you said doctor would mention NEVER NEVER I know what it is I am an RN
I'm sorry - I don't understand your question 🤷🏼♀️
I have AF. When in A&E, waiting to be diagnosed, the consultant told me to pinch my nose, strain like I wanted a poo for 10 seconds. It affects the vagus nerve and bought down my v fast heartbeat. Literally watched it on the machine dropping. 😊
Cool technique!
THANKZ

Hello Dr. Kate ...my gastro doctor suggested I speak with my endocrinologist about getting on Ozempic or Monjauro to lose weight, due to my advanced fatty liver disease and it could also help with my Type 2 diabetes. But, I recall seeing a video about the pro's and cons of these drugs and there were more cons than pro's. My niece who was taking Monjauro just recently suffered pancreatitis, so I am very reluctant to start it, especially with liver disease and Crohn's disease. I would appreciate your opinion on it. Thanks so much!
I talk all about these types of drugs in this video: ruclips.net/video/NVEOQF5S-W4/видео.html
@@DrKateLyzengaDean thanks so much, Dr. Kate!
I never got an email
Hi there! Sometimes the emails end up in your spam folder, so make sure you check there!
This is so good. Thank you
You're welcome!
@@DrKateLyzengaDean I could write a lot on this topic. But that video explained why I can never tell if I'm full when I'm eating with a group of people and unlimited amounts of food. It recreates mealtime in my family of origin, so my system is disregulated.
In 2023, I would get sick no matter what I ate; after just a few bites I experienced extreme nausea or I couldn't hold the food down at all. I lost 30 pounds in 2 months. After several months of a variety of tests, I was diagnosed with gastro paresis; a condition of a damaged Vagus Nerve. In my case, according to my doctors, the damage is most likely linked to my having Parkinson's Disease.
I'm sorry to hear about your struggle - vagus nerve support can absolutely help with gastroparesis!
i have a lot of the products you mentioned in this and previous videos.. thank you, i have a better understanding of how and when to use and feel more hopeful..thank you for helping so many that feel stuck..

Does dairy products increase estrogen level in females?
I'll have to do some more research on this in order to give you a good answer - the quick answer is: maybe, in certain circumstances.
Do you by chance have a pressure point that would stimulate the nerve?
I don't know of one offhand, but it would be cool to look into!
So I had my ferritin levels checked recently and they are on the very lowest level of normal (21 NG/ml) So I believe you pinpointed the cause of my hair loss. So I have been experimenting with ferrous bisglycinate. However, within hours of taking it, I am incredibly bloated and my poops are irregular for days. My whole world is centered around having my morning poop. I don’t eat meat. I have been eating more pumpkin seeds and olives to incorporate more iron. Is there any hope that my gut may adjust to ferrous bisglycinate over time? Any tips to help reduce the gut upset? I so appreciate all your information-it is so wonderful to finally have an answer for my hair loss!
You could try a lower dose or taking it every-other day. Those symptoms could also be a sign of a deeper gut issue that needs to be addressed - check out my video specifically on ferritin for more info: ruclips.net/video/zuJXtBjZb1I/видео.html
71 year old male here, living in Switzerland. Have been eating low carbs since 1972 (Atkins - <50gr/day) and since around 2017 very low carbs (<25gr/day) . 188cm and currently (and for the last 5 years) 105kg. I was diagnosed in 1999 with idiopathic peripheral neuropathy. Twice again in 2013. I was also diagnosed with diabetes Type 2 in 2014 (provoked through Spiricort given to suppress symptoms of Polymyalgia Rheumatica) and had a heart attack in 2018. For neuropathic pain relief I was started on Gabapentin and Cymbalta. Because of horrid cognitive side effects, Cymbalta was switched out for Effexor. Unfortunately, these cognitive side effects didn't stop, so I stopped using them. I take the following for diabetes and cardio: Ezetimib/Rosuvstatin-Mepha 10 mg/10 mg - 1-0-0-0 (Di,Fr,So) Forxiga 5 mg - 1-0-0-1 Aspirin Cardio 100 mg - 1-0-0-0 (Metfin 1000 mg - ½-½-0-1 - stopped as of end of March 2024, see below) Since about 2015 I've been taking INSTEAD of the Cymbalta/Effexor & Gabapentin: R-Lipoic Acid 300 (240) mg - 1-0-1-1 Acetyl-L-Carnitine 750 mg - 0-1-0-1 N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) 1000 mg - 1-0-1-0 Omega 3 (fish oil) 1000 mg - 1-0-1-0 Magnesium 100 mg - 1-1-1-1 I'd been taking Metformin since 2014 with sporadic GI distress and just recently tried Berberine together with Metformin, which at first drastically didn't agree with my gastro-intestinal tract. Since stopping Metformin end of March 2024 - and as soon as stopping Metformin, my GI problems stopped cold - I started taking Myo-Inositol/D-Chiro-Inositol (40:1 ratio) instead of Metformin as well as Dihydroberberine (Done with knowledge and approval of my GP). Fasting sugar levels before lunch and dinner are now between 6.2-6.8. HbA1c will be measured the end of June as well as LDL, triglycerides, both of which, the literature shows, are often reduced by both berberine and inositol.
P.S. - I'm seeing my GP tomorrow for a large blood panel. Very interested in HbA1C, LDL triglycerides. If they are what I'm hoping for, will ask about a trial of further reducing my statin. My doctor already said, that he could well imagine giving me a PCSK9 (evolucolum) inhibitor instead of what I now have. I was in a double blind placebo study here looking at its relative effectiveness vs statins. Turned out I got the evolucolum and it sent my LDL through the floor. I don't remember if it had any averse effects on my neuropathy as two of the statins did that I've tried. My present one at present dosage doesn't seem to aversely affect my neuropathy, but I'd like to get off it because of how statins inhibit the uptake of certain B vitamins in the cells.
I don’t have diabetes but need to lose weight. Can I take this?
Absolutely!
I tried taking it but I got very nauseated when I did so I stopped.
It's important to note that not all berberine supplements are of equal quality, and dose can be an issue. Also, everyone is different - thankfully there are as many Functional Medicine strategies for fat loss as there are reasons for fat gain! What is your opinion on BHRT? I am in perimenopause currently and having great success in managing my symptoms with herbal supplements.I am wondering whether herbal supplements will suffice once i go through menopause or will I have to back up with bio identical hormone replacement. Your opinion matters, please share.
New research is showing that HRT, especially low-dose BHRT, has many benefits for women in perimenopause and menopause - even preventative benefits (not just symptom management)! Everyone is different, but I can tell you for sure that I will personally be monitoring and supporting my own hormones with BHRT when that time comes. 👍🏼

dr. kate. i’ve found that my results (lowered blood sugar) were better when i combined berberine with taurine. could you please comment on why this might be? btw, i thought this video was so informative that i hit the subscriber button right away. well done! thank you!
Thanks so much! Taurine also helps improve insulin signaling, so that could be the reason you get better results with both. Isn't it great to have all these Functional Medicine strategies to use?
@@DrKateLyzengaDean yes, i prefer to use natural methods. at 70 i take quite a lot of supplements, intermittent fasting for 18 - 20 hours each day (8 1/2 years in), exercise (resistance training and walking) and eat healthy low carb (not keto, that was horrible for my blood lab results). NO MEDICATIONS! i appreciate your answering my question. this is a rare gem on youtube to have questions answered. i will continue on with the berberine, taurine & glycine and magnesium glycinate. seems to be working well as it’s kept my A1C at 5.0 to 5.2 range. keep up the good work, i will be watching.
I love it that i found you ! My Doctor is ok with my Ferritin in being at 33. Contributing my symptoms to my age. In this times it hard to get a doctor. So i have to pretty much 0n my own.I am glad see i I can Fix it myself. Thank you so much
Yay! So glad you found the video useful - and thanks for watching!
Extremely good explanation
I'm glad you found it helpful!
I was looking into Ozempic, but I am terrified of the face-ruining effects (I'm 41 and have no fine lines, and I'd like to keep it that way), so I think I'll give this a try to lose some weight. I'd like to lose about 30 pounds, but I am so busy at work that I have no time for myself or to really exercise. I hope this will jump start the weight loss/ help to regulate all the out of whack cortisol levels that I'm sure are making a mess for me.
Be sure to check out the other fat-loss videos in my library - you have so many options!
Thanx, Doc😍😇😇

Hello kate, I'm 23 years old I've been facing severe hairfall since 2018 and i got my head shaved twice just because of this hairfall my hair has become so much thin that i don't able to manage it... i visited dermatologist as well but after 6 months treatment my hair started to falling again and decided to shave again but nothing happens good... I've tested everything that yoh mentioned and all of the levels are normal... I've PCOS and I treated it as well but nothing improves my hairfall and hair thinning...Do i have genetic alopecia? What about rosemary for treatment of hair lossing
I'll look into it!
Do the devices like Pulsetto and Truvaga add any benefit?
Unfortunately I don't know anything about these devices - sorry!
So haw you explain if we take product what you recommended berberine we don’t need any other medication. The one can help for everything. Good explanation but is very questionable
I definitely did NOT say that Berberine replaces any medications - nor does it fix everything. That would be irresponsible and untrue.

Mine started when I was 30
I'm sorry to hear that!
I have been taking Berberine HCL 1200 MG. For almost a month , I haven't change anything just to see , and I haven't lost a pound. My eating habits are bad meaning I don't eat hardly at all. I can't remember the last time I ate a full balanced meal. I don't eat fried foods , I don't eat large amount of foods infact it's the total opposite. However my down fall is sweets !!!! So , I know that's a problem not eating when I do it's sweets. However, I wanted to see if there were ANY changes with my cronic pain , inflammation and weight. So far I have noticed my pain levels ( I have Lupus, and a body full of osteoarthritis ) have gone down THANK GOD. However, I need to loose the weight. It's hard to do when I can barely walk. I'm going to give Berberine one more month..
Glad you're getting some inflammatory relief! Keep working on those sweets - you can do it!
I’ve always been a person who had a terrible addiction to sweets. I was diagnosed with diabetes in February with an A1c of 10.9. Since then I went to a low-carb diet that’s on its way to keto and now I am not controlled by sweets. I also make, low-carb desserts and eat them regularly but I can pass them if I want to. There’s some awesome keto baking cookbooks available on Amazon and there’s also some great fast and easy sweets recipes available freely on the Internet.

Hi! If you're not seeing the checklist in your inbox, feel free to send me an email at info@drkateLD.com and we'll figure it out.
Thank you Dr Kate. I had a paraganglioma kill my right side vagus nerve at the base of my brain. The tumor was removed 20 years ago. I gained 60lbs in 2-3 months and my body has never been the same. No doctor has ever been able to help me. My right vocal cord is paralyzed. I’ve had heart palpitations off and on, especially during cardio. I’ve struggled with digestion, along with a whole host of other issues. I still have my left vagus nerve which I’m sure has learned to compensate but not to the full extent. I turned 50 this year so I’m in the menopausal years and don’t know what is from menopause and what is from my issues in my nervous system. I appreciate the checklist. It’s hard to know if improving vagal tone would help when one side of the nerve is missing.
Hi, Tanya - sorry to hear about your health challenges! I do think that supporting the function of your remaining vagus nerve will still provide some benefit - and it would be worth digging into your hormones, too! I have a few other videos about my approach to hormone health so be sure to check out the library!
it was about three months before I turned 50 that I started to notice my hair coming out and thinning, it still is to this day and I am in full blown Menopause, what do you recommend
